Working on it
Reading what you told us: .
Translating that into nonprofit service categories:
. Every registered nonprofit carries codes
like these on its IRS record.
Searching all 1.86 million registered nonprofits for
those categories near .
Setting aside the ones that can't actually help: foundations
that only grant money, trade associations, and social posts and
halls. About two thirds of the registry goes here.
Ordering what's left: real care first, then direct help,
precise services before catch-alls, veteran-serving flagged,
closer before farther.
Adding programs that serve veterans anywhere in the
country, because the right help isn't always the nearest.
How this works, in one paragraph
Every organization here comes from the IRS registry of 1.86 million
nonprofits, filtered by what each one actually does. About two
thirds of that registry is foundations, trade groups, and social
clubs, so about two thirds never appears here. You get counseling
services, not the nearest hall. On top of the registry sits a
short list added by hand: programs that professionals recommend
and that serve veterans anywhere in the country. Those show no
matter how far away they are, because the right help isn't always
the nearest.
